LEE WILSON

Co-Founder & CEO

Lee is a thought leader in the development of underwater vehicles, autonomous systems and adjacent subsea technologies. 

 

Experienced in developing and leading strategic programmes, building teams in a high-challenge, high-support environment, Lee knows the potential for digitalisation and platform business strategies to transform traditional industries and commercial models. 

 

Lee led the development of the world’s first commercial AUV capable of truly autonomous navigation and close inspection, seeding an autonomy space-race in the offshore energy industry. He holds several patents and publications relating to underwater vehicle technology.

 

Lee is a Chartered Engineer and full member of the IET. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the University of Aberdeen.

CHRIS SOTZING, PHD

Head of Digital Technology and Solutions

Chris is a software engineer and engineering manager with over 15 years of experience developing and delivering autonomous and AI technologies to the market. 

As a passionate technologist and lifelong marine enthusiast, Chris believes strongly in the use of new technologies to democratize access to the ocean to enable and catalyze conservation.

Chris has significant experience developing software for and managing the delivery of complex autonomy systems. He led the software development program for the world's first hovering deepwater inspection vehicle (AIV) then led the engineering team for a major Autonomous Surface Vessel company where he successfully brought the company’s flagship product to market and grew the engineering group. Prior to joining HonuWorx Chris head of technology for a computer vision/AI company, where he looked after a global engineering team focused on building and maintaining the core technology that formed the backbone of all product lines.

Chris holds a BA in Computer Science from Colby College and a PhD from Heriot-Watt University focusing on collaboration between teams of autonomous underwater vehicles. He has been published in multiple international scientific conferences and journals.

LUCAS WISSMANN

Co-Founder

Lucas Wissmann is an impact entrepreneur who has a knack for commercialization and leading teams to successful outcomes. 

After working for both large and small system-integration companies to design or sell products that drive, fly, float, sink and think; Lucas now uses his skills to identify commercial and partnering strategies to accelerate HonuWorx’s growth plan.

Lucas won and successfully executed on contracts with NASA, commercial space companies, offshore field service companies, and the US department of defence.

 

Lucas holds a BS, MS and PhD ABD in Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also co-authored “Value Driven Product Planning and System Engineering” published by Springer.

WAYNE SHERRY

Head of Deployment Systems and Solutions

Wayne Sherry has extensive experience in mechanical engineering and technology development, leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver new products to the market which solve new problems and improve on established ways of working subsea. 

 

Wayne is passionate about solving problems and prolonging the health of the ocean environment. Wayne believes that focus, simplicity and elegance of mechanical design in combination with new thinking in digital and autonomous technology will have a key part to play in developing a sustainable Blue Economy. 

 

Wayne has over 11 years of offshore energy experience. With Subsea 7 he delivered engineering solutions for subsea intervention and bespoke tooling in addition to establishing himself as the mechanical technical authority on autonomous subsea vehicles and launch systems. He was integral to several world-first projects including the AIV, a ground-breaking hovering autonomous vehicle, and deepwater pipeline repair systems.

 

Wayne is a Chartered Engineer and holds a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Aberdeen. As a further outlet for his passion for engineering, Wayne also designed, fabricated and built his own bespoke motorcycle.

ALAN SHANKS

Head of Finance

Alan is an experienced finance professional with a strong Corporate Finance background.

 

With over 20 years experience, Alan has worked with businesses to meet the challenges of growth, which includes stints as FD/CFO at two subsea businesses as they grew from start-up to Private Equity backing at $100m+ valuations.

Alan is a Chartered Accountant (ICAS) and holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from the University of Glasgow.

STEPHEN STEELE

Executive Advisor

Stephen has extensive experience in strategic, commercial and operations management of global subsea companies.

 

He is a former Corporate Development Officer at Ashtead Technology (a PE-backed buy & build platform) and a former Group Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Strategy for Subsea 7.

 

Stephen created a business plan and launched i-Tech7, an autonomous division of Subsea 7.

MILENA ZAGULAK

Digital Marketing and Public Relations Specialist

Milena is a 5th-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Aberdeen passionate about sustainability and technological advancement. Milena has been involved with various professional engineering bodies where she focused on making engineering knowledge accessibleto students from nontechnical backgrounds  as well as promoting women into male-dominated fields.

Prior to joining HonuWorx, Milena worked on various marketing projects, including several high-profile organisations and governmental agencies.
